ADOS DIRECT LINKIn Development

A laptop as the ground station

Direct Link runs the WFB radio straight on a laptop over a userspace USB driver, so a Mac, Windows, or Linux machine is the ground station with no dedicated ground computer. The video and data link it builds on ships today. The userspace ground radio is being built.
In Development

The video and data link is shipping: connect over UDP, TCP, or WFB today. The userspace USB ground radio that removes the dedicated ground computer is in development. Live receive comes first, then full control uplink.

THE PATH

Drone to laptop, over the air

The drone streams over the WFB radio to a USB dongle plugged into the laptop. The laptop runs the ground station itself, with no separate SBC in between.

A USB dongle on the laptop replaces the dedicated ground SBC. Everything above the radio, from pairing to the cockpit, is the standard ground-station software.

WHAT IS REAL TODAY

Shipping link, in-development radio

Be clear on the split. The transport that carries video and telemetry is shipping. The userspace USB radio that lets a bare laptop drive it is what is still being built.

SHIPPING TODAY

The video and data link

Connect the Workstation to a drone over UDP, TCP, or the WFB video and telemetry link. On a dedicated ground node it delivers 50 km+ range at 30 to 70 ms latency. This works now, on real hardware.

IN DEVELOPMENT

The userspace USB radio

Direct Link removes the dedicated ground SBC by running the WFB radio on the laptop over a userspace USB driver, cross-platform. Live receive comes first, then full control uplink.

HOW IT WORKS

One dongle, any laptop

USERSPACE

The radio runs in user space

A userspace USB driver runs the WFB radio directly, with no kernel monitor-mode driver and no DKMS. That is what lets the same dongle work on Mac, Windows, and Linux from one code path.

PLUGGABLE

A new backend, nothing above it changes

The ground link already runs on a pluggable radio backend. Direct Link slots a userspace backend underneath it, so the pairing flow, the video pipeline, and all of Mission Control stay exactly the same.

PHASED

Receive first, then control

Live video and telemetry receive is the first milestone: see your drone on any laptop. Full control uplink over the same USB radio follows, since injecting the command link is the higher-risk step.

THE LINK TODAY

Use the shipping ground station now

You do not have to wait for the laptop radio. The Ground Agent runs the same WFB link on a small dedicated node today, and the Workstation connects to it over the standard transport.
